Quick update! I've been doing more testing and if the camera is in single point autofocus (or manual focus) instead of face/animal AF it DOES NOT OVERHEAT at all with this mod. Still have to do more tests to verify but it's great news!

Very Nice mod. I kept thinking you were gonna streamline the water cooling into a portable kit, but that would be bulky and heavy if not on a tripod. A thought occurred to me while hearing that it still overheats with the 3D printed in hot environments...could you cut a small door to allow direct access to a small area of internal copper to use a heat pipe to the little cooler that could clip on. This means the screen would need to be open so probably not optimum. I have an older Canon that is no wear near the quality that you have and when I press it with max video it also overheats, but it gets glitchy...putting artifacts in every 10th frame or so, before shutting off...it take up to two hours to cool as well. I am curious if a similar mod will extend my capabilities. I will have to dig into it and find out...lol. Thanks for another great video though brother...keep up the quality content. FYI, you made a "clean room DIY box" several years ago, and I am gathering materials to do this as well for a data recover pod/box. You are a wealth of info.

At this price point why not just buy a camera that works? Works without you needing to waste all that time on something that should just work out of the box and violate the warranty! Great Video. Interestingly in April 2021 Canon are apparently about to launch a "video specialist" R5c with a larger body and active cooling for more money ... so IMO the poor cooling was deliberate on their part, to preserve their sacred "market segmentation". Someone should launch an after market heatsink kit.

Dude, you should have used micro heat pipes to duct heat into the tripod mount, so as long as you have it connected to a tripod the heat would transfer into the tripod, which even steel is a far better thermal conductor than plastic, which with 39 minute record time and 5 minute cooldown time in standalone mode would have made it acceptable, and even then you could have made an attachment which could actively cool the tripod mount via screwing into the tripod mount. Might need a dab of thermal compound every time you screwed it in though... Which might get a bit messy.

I thought there was a camcorder export tax... so thats why dslr's "overheat" and stop recording. They do overheat, but I also think they have software that stops recording despite temperatures being nominal to continue recording. Like clearly here in the first demo test the canon firmware relied on time and not temperature and killed recording.
